After Slow Image Makeover, Russian Airline Industry Faces Specter of Terrorism
After Crashes. Soviet air travel, the phrase evokes stomach-churning journeys
on rattling aircraft, surly service and rubber sandwiches. But since the Soviet
Union collapsed, Russia has endeavored to overhaul the industry's sorrowful
image. Those efforts now face a new challenge after last week's crashes of two
airliners, apparently brought down by terrorists.
Northwest to Impose Fees to Tickets Not Booked on Its Web Sites; United Adding
Award Ticket Fees. Northwest Airlines Corp. plans to begin charging customers
and travel agents extra fees for domestic tickets that are not booked through
the airline's Web sites.
The airline said the new fees will lower the airline's cost of selling all
tickets to about $5, or the same as it now spends selling them through the Web
sites, http://www.nwa.com and http://www.worldagentdirect.com
American Airlines Enhances Web Site to provide easier navigation and enable
customers to Join Admirals Club Online. Continuing its commitment to give
customers what they value, American Airlines has added "shopping"
tabs to its Web site, http://www.aa.com, to make it easier for customers to
quickly locate what they're looking for online.
Southwest Airlines Helps Customers Get to Their Favorite Destinations; Airline
Offers New Daily Nonstop Flights Nationwide. Chief Executive Officer, Gary
Kelly, announces plans to enhance existing nonstop flights in several Southwest
Airlines markets. On October 31, the airline will add new nonstop flights in
the following cities: Chicago Midway, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orlando,
