(NAPSI) - If you or someone you care about is among the 600,000 U.S. women who have a hysterectomy this year, there's something you may want to consider.

Most of those surgeries are still performed via open abdominal incisions, meaning longer recoveries and higher risks of complications. Fortunately, less invasive surgical options such as laparoscopy are available.

In response, one woman created Give Me a Second to encourage women to get second opinions before having a hysterectomy or any surgery.

"Second opinions do three important things," says Kathy Kelley, founder of HysterSisters, an online community for women facing hysterectomy, and creator of Give Me a Second.
