Love Among The Survivors
By Doreen-Louise Willis

Doreen-Louise Willis' LOVE AMONG THE SURVIVORS began in the country - Willis was looking after a friend's home and, unable to find a thing to read, she decided to write a book of her own.

"I had been thinking of retirees and their changed roles and expectations in our society and how these roles are enforced," says Willis. "As LOVE AMONG THE SURVIVORS began to evolve, it seemed to me that in fact a person does not change throughout life, but rather, adapts."

LOVE AMONG THE SURVIVORS became an account of a group of people who turn their backs on the routines and restrictions of a housing complex and opt for freedom in an unlikely sea-side town. With fixed incomes, experience and courage, these folks find themselves working together, returning to the basics and reveling in life once more. LOVE AMONG THE SURVIVORS is about people: funny ones, sad ones, winners and losers and those who have it all together and don't care about winning and losing.

"You may find yourself digging out suitcases and dusty dreams as you too decide to live a little," says Willis.

Judy Alsager, author of Gang Ranch - The Real Story says, "Willis sparks our imagination by involving us in the lives of an interesting cast of characters who collectively decide they are not going to sit idle until they die. She instills in us all the desire to steer our own aging destinies towards personal fulfilment in our twilight years."

Doreen-Louise Willis was raised in Victoria and now divides her time between Vancouver Island and the Cariboo, enjoying the best of seaside and countryside. She is the daughter of a writer and has spent her working life in a variety of jobs in order to support her writing habit.
