GRIEF IS A SHADOW - A BIOGRAPHY OF MY LOVE
by Albert M. Swash
The passing of a loved one is the most dramatic event in
a person's life.
The deep and poignant distress of grief leads people to wonder how they
will cope, and why they feel guilt. The grieving often ask where they
can
find help and how they can resume life after separation.
In Albert Swash's autobiographical GRIEF IS A SHADOW - A BIOGRAPHY OF
MY
LOVE, a journey through 52 years of his successful marriage to Iris is
examined in detail. From the first happy meetings to the dark and tragic
final weeks, days and hours, the love of this union is shown in all its
depth.
At times endlessly happy, at other times relentlessly devestating, GRIEF
IS A SHADOW had a dual function in its writing. The first is to act as
a
closing influence on a hard and shattering event. "GRIEF IS A SHADOW is
a
true love story," says author Swash. "Our marriage survived - with
strength intact - all the peaks and valleys we could have ever imagined.
Through the good times and bad times our union lasted. I loved her.
Dearly."
There is, however, a more damning side to this story. A side detailing
neglect, apathy and a health care system gone fundamentally rotten. Swash
takes us into his mind and heart for the last days of Iris's time in this
world, a time where nurses and hospitals are overworked, underfunded and
incredibly strained.
Swash is fair in his assessments, delicately balancing his natural
instincts of denial and blame with the facts of Iris's passing. By
journey's end, the reader is invited to contact the author and discuss
the circumstances.
Though Iris is gone, her shadow remains. In completing GRIEF IS A SHADOW,
Swash's grief over the loss of Iris has been transformed into a
protective and comforting shadow of life.
This is not a dialogue of despair. This is a story of living.
A portion of the proceeds of each book sold will be donated to Mid-Island
Hospice in Nanaimo for the training of volunteers to further their work
with the terminally ill and the bereaved.
