Are You Fit To Love After Christmas?
By Allie Ochs

Perhaps the word love has never a more pervasive meaning than at Christmas. Most of us who celebrate Christmas jam loving words and acts into the holiday season. Our world becomes narrower as we feel closer to others and kinder towards ourselves. We can let go of resentment and anger; we can forget our pain and worries. As we feel more loving our hearts become alive even if it is only for a few days. I remember Christmases when I could have sworn that I felt love between people known to be enemies.
Why can most people find that loving feeling during Christmas, but lose it soon afterwards? Christmas is an agenda-driven celebration and there is consensus that expressing love is part of this agenda. In other words we are being told to be loving and most of us are ready to follow suit. Quite apart from sticking to the rule, Christmas allows us to give and receive love, be vulnerable and show our emotions. This is a time of the year when we can be truly human and it feels great! After Christmas we retreat, become defensive and are afraid to show loving feelings. Once again we complain about the state of affairs in the world and the people in it.
The past year has contributed to our living with increased fear. Geo-political unrest, employment insecurity, fires, diseases and terrorism have been on most of our minds. At the same time, many interpersonal relationships are far from loving and border on disastrous. Yet, we sincerely wish and hope things would change for the better.
On the other side of the fence there is an awesome world unfolding right in front of you where many are making a loving difference. Don't sit on the fence and wait for others or the world to change. A better world begins with loving relationships, one human step at a time. Keep that loving feeling alive after Christmas. It will go a long way towards improving all your relationships, your life and help create the world you wish for. Put love on your speed dial to take part in this loving revolution. You know that you have an abundance of love inside because you are about to embrace another Christmas. Make this one last all year!
Once you have learned to love, you will have learned to live. ~Author Unknown
