Divorce in America

September 20, 2000

A new 14-year marriage/divorce survey disputes findings of most previous divorce surveys! This recently released survey says that 80-85% of all first divorces are caused, not by finances or a lack of communication as most previous surveys have reported, but rather that divorce is actually caused by the Married-Too-Young Syndrome. Finances and lack of communication are only symptoms of the Married-Too-Young Syndrome. Approximately 10,000 participants in divorce have agreed with that last statement.

Other important findings of this survey are these:

1. Less than 20% of marriages throughout history have been happy marriages!

2. If a person marries before age 26 the probability of divorce increases exponentially, even to the point that when you save money for the wedding, you may as well save for the divorce!

3. If you marry a person you started dating before age 25, you may as well plan for your divorce!

4. A few young marriages-- before age 26-- last for a lifetime, but most of those have an easy-going husband. If he is not easy-going, you better not marry him while he is young!

5. If a man does not have 3-4 serious relationships between high school and marriage, you may as well kiss him goodby, as there is only a small possibility that he will stick around for life!

6. If you date a person longer than two years and then marry, you may as well prepare for divorce because it is probably coming sooner than you think!

7. A young marriage up North [U.S.] is much more likely to survive than a young marriage down South [U.S.]! This is a vital characteristic that no other survey has detected. Reasons?

A. The Bible Belt

B. Ethnicity up North

C. Cold weather

D. Higher % of good-looking women in the South than in the North.

E. Country Music

8. Almost all personal problems with which people struggle can be directly traced to a young marriage, either personal, or parent's, or oftentimes grandparents started a misery chain reaction!

9. Everyone of those who succumbed to a "mid-life crisis" got married too young!

10. Almost all females who suffered a "nervous-breakdown" went from parents to spouse and never spent enough time as a single, independent person!

11. Control freaks have caused untold misery for wives throughout history, but they can be detected before marriage! Control freaks normally date and marry someone much younger!

12. Sex is for adults, not for children! This is the summation across the board by respondents to the survey, whether that respondent was religious or non-religious. A remarkable finding!!

13. Women need to understand that there is a percentage-- according to the survey a quite large percentage-- of men who need to be avoided at all costs! They are trouble and will lead to misery for women!

14. The survey says that a woman needs to guard her heart, as history tells us it can be given away to the most undeserving man!

15. Most people that divorced knew at the time of the ceremony that the marriage was a mistake! They knew it wasn't going to work out!

16. Many of these people even heard a voice tell them not to go through with the wedding, and that voice was not the voice of anyone they knew personally!!

17. People who responded to this part of the survey stated that men who cause a pregnancy outside of marriage deserve to be severely punished!

18. Don't even think about marrying a school sweetheart before having a few other serious relationships!!

19. Adults should not date children, much less marry them!

20. Date and marry within specific age groups!

21. Don't even think about marrying someone because you are in love! Misery may follow!

22. You are looking for something other than love when seeking a spouse!

23. Shacking up before marriage is almost a certainty that you will be involved in a divorce, and that divorce will be your own!

24. You better save your best sex for marriage, or divorce will be more likely than you planned!

25. If you marry a violent or dishonest person, you deserve what you get, so don't look for sympathy!

26. If a man doesn't live his dream, the wife may as well start saving for the divorce. It's coming!

27. If a woman sells herself short, she is going to be miserable the rest of her life! A woman needs to be all she can be and all she wants to be!

28. A person who has been married several times was probably spoiled as a child! If he/she doesn't get their way, they pick up their toys and move on.

29. Grandparents who are raising grandchildren probably failed at raising their child!

30. Females are usually more intelligent than males!

31. A woman out looking for a husband is probably going to do something stupid!

32. A man put into a potentially immoral sexual situation is probably going to do something very stupid!!

33. Childbearing years are between ages 30-39!

34. Spouses should not work together, unless they don't want to remain husband and wife!

35. A female without a good education or vocation before marriage is probably going to regret it.

36. The women who tried it, are convinced that the stupidest females in the world are the females who actually think they can change a man!!!! Can't get more stupid than that, can you? Remember that percentage of pathetic males? At least that's what thousands of divorced females told the surveyor! And if the survey could have questioned all females who have ever divorced, the number would have been millions, if not billions, concurring with this last statement. If God isn't big enough to change some men, how much of a chance does a woman have?!

37. A conclusion drawn from this survey is that almost all poverty that we see in the world today would be alleviated if men and women waited until after age 26 to marry, and after age 30 to have children! Only one visit to a local "welfare" office establishes that fact, as almost everyone seeking benefits in such offices have suffered from the Married-Too-Young Syndrome, either personally, the parents, or possibly the grandparents. After repeated visits to, and observation at, "welfare" offices the surveyor had to conclude beyond all reasonable doubt that over 90% of the "clients" at these offices had either gotten married too young, or had gotten pregnant, or caused a pregnancy too young-- a condition that usually means their parents made poor choices.

38. Yes, there is an easy way to know that you have "found" your "soulmate!"

All of these and more conclusions are found in the recently released book, HOW TO MARRY RIGHT, AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. This easy to read book, written by established author, Daniel Lee Schinzing of Cleburne, Texas, is the culmination of thousands of informal interviews the author conducted personally, and the research was put into paperback form so that consumers could easily afford to learn how to marry the right spouse, which in and of itself will go a long way to making life much happier.
